Our Western Cape branches chose: Rape Crisis Centre in the Karl Bremer Hospital, Bellville
Before they started the Centre was in serious need to TLC. The walls were painted with harsh colors like purple, pink and orange, which can be unnerving to someone who has just had a traumatic experience and so staff members repainted the walls with a softer and more welcoming pastel green to ensure a calmer environment.
All the Skin, Body and Health Renewal therapists performed charity fundraising massages, with which they managed to raise enough funds to install wall mounted fans in all six rooms, extractor fans in the two showers and repaint the entire Centre.
Through financial donations from NuAngle (suppliers of SkinMedica) and Lamelle Laboratories, they were able to build cupboards and toy boxes for the Children’s Play room as well as a big wardrobe to store all the donated clothing in that they collected for the survivors. They purchased 100 top quality towels so the survivors can take a warm and comforting shower at the Centre. Logica Beauty Supplies and Genop Healthcare made generous toiletry donations. A Cape Town support manager hosted a dance marathon involving the local community and managed to collect boxes full of toiletries and much needed items to make up care packages for the survivors. To finish off the new look, new permanent signs were made and installed by Sign Force to replace the printed and laminated ones.
As a final contribution Skin, Body & Health Renewal will be sending five volunteers on a three month counselling course next year this will equip them with the knowledge they need to properly counsel the survivors.
The weekend was a great success and the Crisis Centre staff love their new working environment. We trust that our small contribution made a difference and that it will motivate others to support them as well.
Thank you to all our staff members, suppliers and clients for their individual contributions
